Outside the Box: Leveraging EVLP to Increase Lung Availability

Jason Benjamin

Jason is the Ex Vivo Lung Specialist Team Lead for the LBE's Jacksonville facility. Jason joined LBE four years ago after completing his training in Silver Spring, MD and Toronto General, and was the first specialist to join the Jacksonville team.

Prior to coming to LBE, Jason worked for 16 years in the OPO industry in leadership, ICU donor management, administrator on call, as well as recovery of livers and kidneys and surgical first assist for thoracic and abdominal recoveries.

Jason has instructed many on-site OPO surgical recovery workshops as well as national events as a lead instructor for IIAM. Jason holds a degree in surgical technology and a teaching certificate for clinical surgical technology instruction.

Randolph Shelton

Randolph Shelton is the Ex Vivo Lung Specialist Team Lead for LBE's Silver Spring facility. He has more than 14 years of experience in donation and transplantation.

Prior to joining LBE, he was a Procurement Transplant Coordinator and administrator on call for the Washington DC area OPO. Outside of his clinical duties he is involved in EVLP research and device development.

Randolph attended Trinity University and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and he is dually certified as a Procurement Transplant Coordinator and Transplant Preservationist by the ABTC.

Prior to getting involved in donation and transplantation he served in the Texas Medical Reserve Corps and was awarded the Adjutant General’s Individual Award for meritorious service during Hurricane Katrina.
